Multi-sensory experiences for teams and leaders

The office is back.
The joy isn't.

JOY Shift is a premium, research-grounded experience for teams. Team members leave feeling grounded, seen, and connected, and they carry the shift in perspective back to work. The organization sees the results in deeper engagement, stronger collaboration, and higher retention.

Why now

Perks live outside the person.

Companies are bringing people back together and investing in reasons to come: the food, the childcare, the beautiful spaces. People appreciate all of it. But a great lunch can't reach someone who is depleted inside.

JOY Shift works on the layer your perks can't reach: each person's inner state, and the meaning they bring to their work. Layered on top of what you already offer, it makes that investment go deeper.

Among the Fortune 100, 29 companies now require employees in the office five days a week, and 44 require at least four.1 Meanwhile, global employee engagement fell to 20% in 2025, its lowest level since 2020.2

JOY Shift doesn't replace your perks. It makes them pay off.
The JOY Shift approach

Joy isn't a perk. It's a frequency.

Most workdays run on noise: deadlines, notifications, the pressure of what's next. Underneath it is something steadier. We call it the Joy Frequency: the calm, durable state where people think clearly, connect easily, and do their best work. Our approach helps people find it on purpose, and keep it.

Low frequency · the noise
Frantic. Fragile. External.

Always chasing the next milestone. Spending energy to look the part. Joy that disappears with the next disruption.

High frequency · the shift
Calm. Durable. Internal.

Present and steady. Joy that holds through change, and shows up in how people lead, collaborate, and stay.

33Human senses, by some counts

Why we start with the senses

Most of us were taught we have five senses. Some neuroscientists now estimate we have between 22 and 33,3 including balance, temperature, movement, and interoception: the sense of what's happening inside your own body. Together, they decide how we perceive the world around us. Before we think, we sense.

That's why advice alone rarely changes how someone feels. Change what people sense, on purpose, and their inner state follows: calmer, more open, more present. That inner shift is what lasts.

You can't talk someone onto a new frequency. You can help them sense their way there.
01

Quiet the noise

Interrupt the autopilot and release the tension people carry in, so there's room for something new.

02

Find the signal

Slow down long enough to notice what's steady inside: presence, perspective, and the strength to adapt.

03

Share the frequency

Joy grows between people. Play, recognition, and connection turn a personal shift into a team one.

The JOY Shift Journey

Every moment ladders up to one shift.

Like a retreat, the experience has an arc. Each part builds on the last, helping people feel safe, present, grounded, and connected. Here's how the journey lights up the senses, and the person, along the way.

Larger dots mark where each sense is strongest.

Illustrative. Of the 22 to 33 senses some neuroscientists describe, these are ten the journey engages most; larger dots mark where each sense is strongest. The brain weaves the senses together, which is why moments that engage several at once feel more real and stay with people longer. After the day, people settle at a new, higher level than where they started. With the ritual and follow-up, the shift keeps growing.

Arrive

Feel welcome from the first moment

From the first moment, people know this is a different kind of day. A warm, personal welcome and a quiet check-in lower defenses, so everyone feels safe enough to take part fully.

Senses Touch · Warmth · Inner sense
Builds Psychological safety · Presence
Gather

Start on common ground

The group pauses together, names what the day is for, and gets clear permission to slow down. Every part is opt-in, and everyone, from new hire to executive, starts on equal footing.

Senses Inner sense · Sight · Sound · Sense of time
Builds Belonging · Intention
Act I · Quiet the noise

Release what they carried in

Taste, scent, and touch pull people out of their inbox and into the room. The tension of the week loosens, and a simple reframe lands in the body, not just the mind.

Senses Touch · Smell · Taste · Warmth · Sight · Movement · Sense of time · Inner sense
Builds Release · Reframing · Savoring
Act II · Find the signal

Discover what's steady inside

Experiences designed to slow people down reveal patience, a wider perspective, and the confidence to keep moving when circumstances change.

Senses Sight · Balance · Sense of time · Touch · Sound · Movement · Inner sense
Builds Groundedness · Perspective · Adaptability · Agency
Act III · Share the frequency

Feel seen and connected

Play, a leader's intentional recognition, and a voice that matters turn a personal shift into a shared one. People feel valued for their impact, not just their output.

Senses Sound · Touch · Warmth · Sight · Movement · Inner sense
Builds Recognition · Play · Connection
Return

Build it together

Teams come back together to create something in sync, using only what's on the table, then close with a toast and a laugh they'll talk about for months.

Senses Touch · Sound · Movement · Taste · Sight · Balance · Inner sense
Builds Collaboration · Resourcefulness · Shared joy
Carry it forward

Keep the frequency

A personal anchor, a thirty-second ritual, and a 30-day check-in help the shift take root. With leaders and follow-up sessions reinforcing it, the lift keeps growing all year.

Senses Inner sense · Touch · Smell · Sense of time
Builds Habit · Resilience

Taste the shift

One small taste changes everything you thought you knew about sour. The circumstance stays the same; what changes is you. Reframing, felt on the tongue.

Find the flow

Guests place stones in moving water, trying to stop it. The water always finds a way. So can we, whatever stands in the path.

Feel the impact

In a private, intentional moment, a team leader names one person's value and the difference their work makes, with thoughtful echoes throughout the day.

Hear what matters

In a private booth, a guest hears a voice or song that means the world to them. Sound, light, warmth, and touch work together, and every sense delivers the same message: you matter.

That's all we'll share here. The rest is a surprise, and it's meant to be.

Outcomes

What stays with them after the day ends.

The value of the journey isn't the moments themselves. It's what they leave behind: people who show up better for themselves, for each other, and for the work.

What they carry home

An anchor, not a souvenir.

Every guest chooses a token: a scent, a keepsake, or a sealed note from their leader. One touch or one breath of it brings the feeling back. With it comes a thirty-second ritual for any meeting or any hard day.

Hold it.Touch or smell your token.
Exhale long. One slow breath out, longer than the breath in.
Find one.Name one joyful thing you can see, hear, or feel.
Hold your frequency.
The return

Your perks are the investment.
JOY Shift is the interest.

Perks prevent unhappiness. They don't create joy.Herzberg's research found pay, facilities, and benefits stop dissatisfaction but don't drive motivation. Recognition, meaning, and growth do.7
A better inner state widens what people see.A study in the Journal of Neuroscience found a positive mood widens the visual field, while a negative mood narrows it.8
Happier people do more.Studies from the University of Warwick and the University of Oxford found happier workers were about 12 to 13 percent more productive.9,10
Recognition is a retention lever.Gallup and Workhuman found well-recognized employees were 45% less likely to leave their organization two years later.11 That's why a leader's recognition is built into the journey.

Meet the founder

Lorraine Cooper

Founder and Experience Architect, JOY Shift

I've sat on your side of the table.

For more than 20 years, including 15+ leading teams, I led revenue and partnerships at Google, Rakuten, Monster, and fast-growing retail start-ups. My work brought me alongside senior leaders at some of the largest and most influential consumer brands in North America and Europe. My specialty was helping people say yes to change: launching new business lines, rebuilding plans when strategies shifted midstream, and growing the businesses I led through tough seasons.

Why it's personal

Every one of those skills was pressure-tested when my own dream life turned topsy-turvy and nearly every outside measure of success shifted at once. I leaned on the same framework that had carried me through years of corporate change: reset internally, adapt to new circumstances, tap into my own sources of joy, and build. I found creative ways to embrace and express joy whatever the circumstances, and along the way I found my own frequency for joy. Now my mission is to help others find theirs.

Across both chapters, one thing held true: results follow people who feel seen, rested, and connected. That is the heart of JOY Shift. Generous perks alone won't keep people present, charged, and engaged; how they show up matters too. JOY Shift works on that inner layer, so the investments companies already make in their people, from return-to-office and new tools to AI adoption, go deeper and last longer. It feels good, but it isn't an extra. It's a foundation for stronger teams and the people behind every business line.

I speak to leaders and audiences about building joy through every obstacle, and write about it in my forthcoming book, JOY for Broken People (2027). My name says the rest: a cooper builds vessels that hold what's precious.
Questions

Good to know.

What do we need to provide?

A room about the size of a large conference room, tables, a few power outlets, and access two hours before. We bring and run the experience. Your proposal includes a one-page requirements sheet.

Is every part optional?

Yes. Every experience is opt-in, and no one is asked to perform or share in front of the group.

What about allergies and sensitivities?

We ask about dietary needs, scent sensitivities, and accessibility in advance, and every tasting has an alternative.

How many people can join?

The Spark welcomes up to 30 people and The Glow up to 40. Larger groups move through in waves, or we design a custom format.

How do you measure results?

A short frequency check before the experience, right after, and 30 days later. Leaders receive a summary of the shift on their team.

Do you travel?

Yes, nationwide. Travel and venue rentals are quoted separately.

Who sees the survey results?

Responses are anonymous. Leaders receive group results only, and we never report on groups small enough to identify individuals.

Is everyone recognized?

Yes. Every person on the team receives personal, private recognition during the experience, and every name is celebrated at the close. No one is left out. We walk leaders through exactly how it works when we plan together.

Is the experience accessible?

Yes. Every experience has a seated, low-sensory, or skip option, and we adapt to any request shared in advance. Scent, sound, and light are always gentle and optional.

Our team is remote or spread across cities. Does this work for us?

JOY Shift is designed for in-person moments, and it works especially well when a distributed team comes together, at an offsite, a planning summit, or an annual gathering.

How does booking work?

A signed agreement and a 50% deposit reserve your date. The balance is due before the event, and travel and venue rentals are invoiced separately.

How does Life Transitions work?

It's offered separately from team experiences, as a benefit for individual employees at a moment of change. Sessions are virtual first, and every package is tailored to the person. Companies can offer it on its own, include it in relocation packages, or add it to a partnership.

How does the give back work?

A portion of every JOY Shift booking funds joy experiences for families going through a hard season. We share how your booking gave back, so you can share it with your team.

Is this therapy or a wellness class?

No. JOY Shift is an experiential workshop about noticing and building joy, together. It's practical, research-grounded, and designed for work.

Give back

Joy that travels further.

A portion of every JOY Shift booking funds joy experiences for families going through a hard season: a move, a loss, an illness, a year that asked too much.

When your team finds its frequency, another family gets the chance to find theirs.
